Stand Back, Here Comes The Donald
Added: Nov. 4, 2013
Of course you know the name Donald Trump. You also know when Donald Trump does something, he usually does it in big way. At the same time, you may remember that the state of New Jersey has been at the forefront of the push to bring online gambling to its residents. With that background you most likely will not be surprised to learn that the Donald has just thrown his hat into the ring, so to speak.
What’s going on with the Donald and New Jersey? Start with the fact that the land based casino Trump Plaza is right there in New Jersey. Then, add in the fact that Donald Trump likes to make big bets. In his most recent move, Trump announced a partnership with the British company Betfair.
If you are not familiar yet with the company Betfair, you may have heard of 4NJBets. It turns out that 4NJBets is operated by TGV. TGV is the number one horse wagering website and horse racing television network in the United States. TGV is owned by Betfair. Wow, that’s kind of a long and twisting path, isn’t it? Anyway, the point is that the British company Betfair owns the only wagering platform currently available to residents of New Jersey. So, at the end of the day it looks like Donald Trump took a good look around. He saw that at least for now, Betfair offers an easy way to bring his Trump Plaza into the online casino world and he took steps to make sure that would happen.
So what all of this means is that with this partnership with Betfair, Trump is taking proactive steps for Trump Plaza. The managing director of gaming for Betfair, Mr. Paul La Fontaine, was quoted as saying that “New Jersey is leading the way by launching online gaming and creating a new economy”.
Well said, Mr. Fontaine. Of course, he is probably correct. The increasing popularity of online casinos looks to be an unstoppable trend. Add to this popularity a major deal with a big money player like Donald Trump and you can see that the writing is on the wall. Don’t be surprised if a big portion of the gambling world starts coming to New Jersey instead of Las Vegas or other historically popular gambling locations.
