Astounding Consensus Regarding Legal Online Casino Action
Added: April 3, 2017
Sometimes it seems as if the name Sheldon Adelson is more like the proverbial bad penny. As in, it never seems to go away. Yes, Sheldon Adelson is yet again making news in the legal online casino world. However, this time around the news turns out to be rather good. At least for proponents of legal online casino action in the United States.
Recall that Sheldon Adelson, the Chairman and CEO of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation out in Nevada has been on a personal mission since way back in 2013. His stated mission is to do whatever it takes to prohibit legal online gambling sites in the U.S. You may well remember that Sheldon Adelson vowed to spend any amount necessary to further his cause.
Along those lines, you may also be aware the Sheldon has been literally shoveling funds at various politicians and campaigns over the years to further his cause. One recent strategy involved a Sheldon heavily sponsored Bill labeled the Restoration of America’s Wireless Act (RAWA).
So that is the background, now on to the astounding consensus that was only just made public. Interestingly, this consensus is about the RAWA. For the record, this consensus came about from a poll recently held by the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). The results of this poll overwhelming pointed to the consensus that the efforts by Sheldon Adelson are not at all popular.
Get this: there were two questions posed to CPAC attendees with respect to legal online gambling. A startlingly high, as in 90% of the attendees indicated they staunchly oppose any and all efforts to prohibit state-regulated online casino action.
Amazingly, almost the same high percentage of attendees agree that the proposed RAWA legislation is a violation of the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Actually another not so nice term also showed up in the poll. In no uncertain terms, the actions of Sheldon Adelson were clearly labeled as “crony capitalism”.
In fact, Andrew Langer, the acting President of the Institute for Liberty, the organization behind the CPAC gathering clearly expressed the sentiments of the gathering. Langer was quoted as saying: “…Conservatives see RAWA for what it is—one of the worst forms of crony capitalism in Congress today. RAWA is nothing short of an effort by one of the richest men in the world to ban a form of competition for his brick and mortar casino empire and everyone knows it”.
Wow! Can’t really get any plainer than that. With an entirely new Administration now in charge, it may well be that legal online casino is much closer to a reality in the U.S.
